ATSUM’s 24-Hour Shutdown Continues to Affect Normal Life in Manipur
Guwahati: The All-Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM)-imposed 24-hour shutdown is still having an impact on daily life in the state’s hill regions on Thursday.
The shutdown began at 6 pm on Wednesday and will continue till 6 pm today.
The government allegedly failed to introduce the Manipur (Hill Areas) ADC Bill 2021 during the current 12th Manipur assembly session, prompting the students’ union to call for a boycott.
The student body had made an appeal for collaboration to both public and private educational institutions, government organisations, commercial enterprises, owners of private vehicles, truck drivers, and other transporters, as well as to the general public.
Yesterday, an emergency shutdown was also observed following the arrest of five ATSUM leaders.
The markets in Senapati, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and Ukhrul appeared empty due to the ban on driving. Additionally, schools remained closed in a number of locations.
