Assam’s Nayanmoni Saikia Faces England To Confirm Pedestal Finish
Guwahati: Nayanmoni Saikia of Assam will compete again on Friday in the women’s pairs event after taking home the gold in the women’s fours Lawn Bowls competition at the Commonwealth Games 2022 (CWG).
The Indian team is currently playing against England in the Lawn Bowls quarterfinal match at CWG 22 in Birmingham. The Indian contingent will receive another medal if they succeed here.
Saikia and Lovely Choubey are competing against England in the women’s pairs event, which got underway at 1 o’clock.
Lawn bowls quarterfinals for the Commonwealth Games in 2022 will start at 1 pm on Friday.
It should be mentioned that previously on August 2, when India won the lawn bowls final, Assam girl Nayanmoni Saikia had left her name in gold.
The Indian women’s team made Olympic history when they defeated South Africa in the lawn bowls final to claim gold.
Nayanmoni Saikia will be given a promotion to DSP in Assam in recognition of her medal-winning performance. She currently works for the Assam Forest Department as a constable.
Nayanmoni was born into a middle-class family in Golaghat, Assam. She has always had a strong enthusiasm for sports, and she began her athletic career through weightlifting. However, because of her leg injury and declining ability, she decided to play lawn bowls because it was an injury-free sport.
