Six NLFT ultras surrender with arms in Tripura

Guwahati: Six militants of the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) (Biswa Mohan) group and two collaborators surrendered before the Tripura Police on Friday with arms and ammunition.

Official reports state that the militants surrender two magazines, two pistols with three magazines each, an AK-47 weapon, and a notepad with extortion notices.

This was the largest militant surrender in the previous twelve months in Tripura. Since last year, there haven’t been any significant incidents involving extremists in the north-eastern state.

According to an official, on July 21, terrorists under the command of Umesh Koloi (42) crossed into Tripura from Bangladesh using Ganganagar in the Dhalai district. These extremists had sent extortion notices and their goal was to kidnap civilians. They proceeded through the Gomati bush in Ganganagar, Mungiakami, and Ompi.

The Tripura State Rifles and the police engaged in special operations when the intelligence division detected their movement. The security forces’ pressure forced the extremists to give themselves up in front of the police.

All of the militants who had surrendered and their allies were given to the state police’s special section for joint questioning.
