Japanese Encephalitis claims 3 more lives in Assam, death toll reaches 63

Guwahati: Three more people succumbed to Japanese encephalitis in Assam, bringing the state’s total death toll from the illness to 63 since July 1 on Saturday.

All three deaths have been reported from Nagaon district.

After 12 new instances were recorded in the past 24 hours, the state’s overall number of JE cases has increased to 347. The fresh cases include two each from Dibrugarh and Kamrup Metro along with one each from Cachar, Chirang, Goalpara, Hojai, Karbi Anglong, Nagaon, Tinsukia and Udalguri.

The district authorities were instructed by the state’s National Health Mission (NHM) to form District Rapid Response Teams and so they did so in order to keep a close eye on the situation and take preventive action.

Japanese Encephalitis and malaria kill many people in Assam every year, specifically during the monsoon season that usually starts in May and stretches to October.
