Guwahati: In an unfortunate incident, a youth has drowned to death in a river while taking bath in the Sindura River of Kalain on Sunday.
The victim has been identified as Sakib Akhtar Laskar, a resident of Madhurband in Silchar town of Cachar district.
According to reports, Sakib and his friends were swimming in the Sindura River when the incident occurred.
As claimed by the eye-witnesses, Sakib has been swept away by heavy currents of water and drowned.
Sakib’s friends raised a hue and cry, following which local people from the nearby area gathered over there.
Meanwhile, police and other SDRF troops arrived on the spot and immediately started a rescue effort to find the youth, but they were unsuccessful.
The search operation continued on Monday to locate the missing youth.
