Legendary Player Serena Williams Announces Retirement From Tennis

Guwahati: Tennis legend Serena Williams revealed on Tuesday that she will stop competing after the US Open competition.

Williams stated in a Vogue story that she was considering her life’s trajectory after tennis.

She said, “I have never liked the word retiring. Perhaps the easiest way to sum up what I’m doing is to call it evolutionary. I’m here to let you know that my priorities are shifting away from tennis and toward other things.”

The 40-year-old American has won 23 career doubles titles in addition to 73 singles wins overall. Williams said she would stop competing which will take place later this month after the US Open.

“I’m unsure if I’ll be prepared to win New York. But I’ll try,” she said.

Williams, who has 23 Grand Slams, is just one shy of sharing the top spot for most grand slam victories by a woman in the world.
