Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will present Nayanmoni Saikia, the gold medallist from the 2022 Commonwealth Games with a felicitation at the Janata Bhavan at 2.30pm on Thursday.
Nayanmoni Saikia made history today when she won two gold medals in lawn bowling at the CWG, 2022. She arrived in Guwahati earlier today.
Later, at 4pm Lawn Bowl Association will also felicitate the CWG medalist.
The gold medalist was greeted by the Assam Forest Department, where she is currently engaged as a Constable at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI).
The department has already chosen to elevate Nayanmoni to DSP of Assam.
Nayanmoni was born into a middle-class family in Golaghat. She has always had a strong enthusiasm for sports, and she began her athletic career through weightlifting. However, because of her leg injury and declining ability, she decided to play lawn bowls because it was an injury-free sport.
The Assam athlete won the first gold medal in the four-team lawn bowls competition and the second gold medal in the pair lawn bowl competition.
