African Swine Fever Outbreak Begins To Subside In Mizoram
Guwahati: Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department Joint Director (Livestock Health) Lalhmingthanga reported that the African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak in Mizoram has started to abate.
The number of piggery deaths has dramatically decreased during the past few days, he claimed.
However, he noted that the situation was unpredictable because practically the entire state had been hit by the ASF outbreak, which may flare up at any time.
The National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal recently confirmed that the dead wild boars, whose corpses were discovered in the woods close to the Myanmar border last month, perished from ASF.
According to Lalhmingthanga, the state government has not yet notified the Center of the discovery of the incredibly contagious swine disease in wild boars.
He said that the government will also write to the Center to request that it import ASF vaccines from Vietnam.
The illness claimed the lives of 13 more pigs on Sunday, bringing the total to 10,039.
According to the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, more than 43,400 pigs and piglets have perished in the ASF outbreak since it was first discovered in the state in March of last year.
So far, 20,000 pigs have been killed to stop the virus from spreading further.
The government reported that 137 villages and localities in 10 districts were impacted by the outbreak.
