CM Directs Officials to Expedite Rescue Ops at Landslide-Hit Areas in Himachal
Guwahati: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has ordered the state’s Deputy Commissioners to oversee urgent relief and rescue efforts in addition to sending personnel and equipment at key locations where landslides have occurred in the state.
Jai Ram Thakur stated that main roads in apple-growing regions need to be repaired as soon as possible at a review meeting with the top officials. He stated that in order to prevent any adverse accidents, tourists should be warned to stay away from slide-prone areas and river banks.
Additionally, Thakur stated that additional central teams would be sent by the national government to help with relief and restoration efforts.
According to official reports, at least 21 people have been killed due to rain-triggered landslides and other weather-related incidents during the past 24 hours in Himachal Pradesh.
Six individuals are missing, and 12 people have been injured, according to the State Disaster Management Authority.
Landslides are expected throughout the state through August 25 according to the state’s disaster management department. A 12-hour orange notice has also been issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for the state.
