SC Dissolves CoA Dissolution In Bid To Overturn FIFA’s Ban On AIFF
Guwahati: The Committee of Administrator (CoA) was established by the Supreme Court of India (SC) to oversee the business of the All-India Football Federation(AIFF) and its authority was terminated on Monday.
The SC also delayed the AIFF elections, which were originally scheduled to take place on August 28, by one week in order to accommodate a modified electoral college and the filing of nominations in accordance with the new rules, while hearing the case regarding FIFA’s suspension of the country’s football governing body.
A bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud and A S Bopanna ruled today that the acting general secretary of the AIFF would be in charge of managing day-to-day operations as the CoA was dissolved.
The bench added that the ruling had been granted to allow FIFA’s suspension of AIFF to be lifted and to hold the coveted FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India, which would permit Indian athletes and teams to compete in international competitions.
The top court further noted that as the opposing parties have not raised any objections, the returning officers (ROs) chosen shall be deemed to be ROs appointed by it and that the election schedule may be amended by moving the election date back one week.
The bench further said, “Voter’s list for the ensuing election shall consist of 36 member associations representing states/UTs…”
