Pijush Hazarika Slams Delhi CM Over Remarks On Closing Schools In Assam
Guwahati: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) president and Assam cabinet minister Pijush Hazarika criticised Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his approach to education on Thursday.
Hazarika, who is in charge of the water resources, information, and public relations portfolios among others, claimed that the national capital’s overall performance had declined under Kejriwal’s leadership.
The minister for Assam was responding to Kejriwal’s tweet, in which he discussed the closure of various educational institutions in Assam due to subpar results in the HSLC 2022 exams.
Lending his thoughts on the matter, Delhi CM Kejriwal had tweeted in Hindi, “Shutting down schools is not the solution. We should work towards building more schools in the country. Instead of shutting them down, upgrade them in quality so that the quality of education imparted gets better.”
However, the Assam cabinet minister Hazarika blasted the AAP chief for his remarks, saying that because his “false Delhi Model Schools have been exposed occasionally,” he had no business discussing educational improvement.
He added that schools in Assam were not closing; rather, they were being combined to enhance the general educational environment.
Hazarika tweeted, “Firstly, schools in Assam are not being closed, rather amalgamated to improve the overall educational environment! Secondly, respected CM @ArvindKejriwal ji have no rights to speak on educational upliftment as his fake ‘Delhi Model Schools’ have been busted from time to time.”
In a further tweet, Hazarika highlighted how the class 10 pass percentage had come down in the national capital from a high of 99.09 per cent in 2011, down to 81.27 per cent in 2022.
Additionally, he asked that the Delhi CM travel to Assam in order to study the educational system and implement it in Delhi.
“The AAP education model has demolished Delhi’s education system, bringing down Class X pass % from 99.09% in 2011 to 81.27% in 2022! The great model schools of Delhi stand poorly in all aspects as compared to Puducherry! Kejriwal ji should visit Assam rather to learn,” tweeted Hazarika.
It should be noted that the Assam government declared that up to 34 schools will be shut down for having a 0% success rate in the HSLC Exams, the results of which were released earlier in June of this year.
State education minister Ranoj Pegu declared that these schools would be shuttered and the kids would be given the opportunity to enrol in other schools in order to avoid disrupting their lives due to the fact that all of the children appearing in these institutions appeared to be failing.
Pegu had said, “The government cannot spend tax dollars on institutions with a failure rate of zero.
This year, Assam saw the lowest overall pass percentage since 2018 at 56.49 percent.
