Assam-Mizoram Agrees to Maintain Cordial Relations between police forces along Border
Guwahati: A cordial relation between the police forces stationed at the interstate boundary between Assam and Mizoram has been agreed upon.
An official statement issued on Wednesday said that both parties agreed to take steps to ensure that economic activity along the border continues unhindered and that farmers are permitted to operate at their fields on either side of the state border.
The statement was issued after discussing border concerns at a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp on the Mizoram-Assam border, deputy commissioners from five border districts—two from Mizoram and three from Assam.
The two states signed a common statement at a conference held in Aizawl on August 9to move the process of settling their territorial disputes ahead.
The meeting held on Wednesday also discussed the collective efforts to protect forest areas along the state border, preventing hunting and illegal transportation of wild animals and facilitating the selling of Mizoram-grown areca nuts in the neighbouring states.
It was also talked about how bridges are being built between Zophai and Thinghlun, two Mizoram border villages.
