Artisan from Assam to Send a Fiberglass Durga Idol to London

Guwahati: An artisan in the Karimganj district of Assam is all set to ship a fibreglass Durga statue to London.

The 2.5-foot Durga idol is built entirely of fibreglass.

The idol has been created by artist and clay modeler Sanjay Kumar Paul with just a month left for Durga Puja.

Paul claimed to have been given the instruction to create the idol two months prior.

He stated, “The height of the idol is 2.5 feet, and I made the Durga idol using fibreglass and some clay. My labour took one and a half months to complete. The Durga idol will be exported from the North East to London for the first time. The idol costs approximately Rs 55,000.

A significant festival is celebrated in Assam and other regions of India called Durga Puja. The goddess Durga is worshipped throughout the ten-day celebration. Artisanal workshops use unfired clay to create idols of Durga and her offspring (Lakshmi, Saraswati, Kartik, and Ganesh) months before the festival.
