Assam: 5 Bangladeshi Nationals Held from Mankachar

Guwahati: At least five Bangladeshi have been apprehended from Mankachar in Salmara-Mankachar district of Assam.

The Bangladeshis were detained on Saturday for attempting to enter India illegally by the Border Security Force (BSF) near Sisumora at the Indo-Bangladesh border.

The individuals detained are citizens of Bangladesh’s Gaibandha area.

According to reports, Suraj Miya, Jahidul Islam, Jahidul Islam, Abdul Salam, and Maidul Islam have been identified as the individuals who have been arrested.

They were given to the Bangladesh Border Guard as a show of goodwill and on humanitarian grounds.

Two Bangladeshi nationals were found guilty and given five years in prison earlier this month by the District and Sessions court of South Salmara-Mankachar district for trespassing into Indian territory.

The court also ordered both parties to pay fines of Rs 10,000 apiece, failing which they will serve an additional six months in prison.
