After Successful Demolition, Now Debris A Concern For Noida Residents Near Twin Towers

Guwahati: An already congested national capital awoke on Monday to a mountain of debris and dust left over from yesterday’s famous controlled explosion demolition of the Supertech twin buildings.

A nine-year legal struggle with the realtors culminated in the destruction of the Noida twin towers after the Supreme Court declared the building unconstitutional last year.

Mountains of rubble were visible today in the Emerald Court housing society in Noida, while workers were busy removing the layer of dust from the ground around.

Meanwhile, the covers that had been placed on neighbouring buildings to reduce the ingress of dust have not yet been removed.

Speaking to NDTV, a member of the resident welfare association of the housing society in Noida’s Sector 93A, Aarti Kappula said, “There was a smell of dynamite, the rest was fine. We just removed the AC covers and slept off,” when she returned home at around 11.30 pm.

She commented that the sky was clear when she awoke this morning. “There will be pollution, according to the warning we received. I didn’t wear a mask since I noticed a blue sky when I got up, continued Kappula.

She was further questioned on the festivities that would follow what could be seen as a triumph of good against evil, similar to how the twin towers were demolished after it was discovered that they were built in violation of the law.

We have arranged it for this evening, so yes. We’re going to spend some time together. Clearly, the battle has been won. It’s a model for the entire nation,” she responded.

It should be mentioned that the members of the community had petitioned the court, pointing out that realtor Supertech, the company responsible for the twin buildings, had constructed them on land that had previously been designated for a garden area. They argued that the realtor broke the rules to sell more apartments and make more money.

After receiving approval from the authorities, they allegedly amended the original project plans to add the two towers with 24 stories. In addition, a later idea to add an additional 40 stories was swiftly abandoned.

Finally, the realtors were found guilty by the Supreme Court of breaking the rules while working with Noida officials. In a historic decision made last year, the apex court ordered the iconic towers to be demolished at Supertech’s expense.

Kappula added that the Uttar Pradeshi administration made no attempt to meddle in the legal dispute. “I hope the administration keeps acting that way. Residents suffer, so it should actually pull the authorities in, she said.

The debris that was dispersed throughout the demolition site was the initial cause for alarm, she added. She added that Edifice, the company tasked with performing the demolition, had previously informed them that the bigger parts would be broken down to make them easier to remove.

“We don’t want that; we’ve already suffered enough as a result of the pollution. Instead, we want the debris to be simply picked up by cranes and trucks and sent away. However, they cannot break them here, according to Kappula.
