Economist Abhijit Sen Passes Away
Guwahati: Eminent Indian economist and former planning commission member Abhijit Sen breathed his last at the age of 72 on Monday.
Sen, a renowned authority on rural economies passed away Sunday night from a heart attack.
His brother, Dr. Pronab Sen, stated, “He had a heart attack at 11 PM. Although we rushed him to the hospital, by the time we arrived, everything had already ended.”
Sen worked for four decades in his profession. He has held a number of significant government roles, including chairman of the commission on agricultural cost and prices, in addition to teaching economics at the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi.
He served as a member of the planning commission from 2004 to 2014 in the administration of the then-prime minister Manmohan Singh.
