NFR to Revive Project Connecting Sairang with Myanmar Border

Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is prepared to build a train link from Mizoram to Myanmar’s border.

According to NF Railway authorities, a broad gauge line would be built from Sairang near Aizawl  to Hmawngbuchhuah in Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district close to the Myanmar border even though the final location study of the 111 km Imphal-Moreh (along the Myanmar border) segment is already underway.

According to a senior NF Railway official, the Act East Policy requires connecting Northeast India with the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project being built in Myanmar  even if the projected railway route from Sairang to Hmawngbuchhuah is “economically not possible.”

A broad gauge railway line project between Bairabi (close to the Assam border) and Sairang is being built by the NF Railway at a cost of around Rs 6,527 crore.

The broad-gauge railway line between Bairabi and Sairang is now being built  and it should be finished in March 2023.
