Gauhati HC Orders To Evict Encroached Forest Area In Assam’s Goalpara

Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court issued an order to remove the encroachment in the forest region in Goalpara district of Assam on Tuesday.

Goalpara’s forest tracts must be surveyed by the district within three months, under a directive from the HC.

After the survey, the district is also directed to organise a task force to oversee the eviction and to order the encroachment area to be cleared.

According to reports, a youth identified as Pranabjyoti Sarma filed the petition after becoming suspicious about a few citizens intruding on the forest area.

He claimed that because of the encroachment, numerous wild elephants came to the forest region and that some of them had even been murdered by the encroachers.

The task team is also mandated to keep an eye on elephant deaths in the wild.
