Guwahati: In yet another instance of police shooting in Guwahati on Tuesday night an alleged dacoit was killed.
The incident took place last night around 13th Mile, close to Jorabat.
The dacoit identified as Govind Kumar reportedly died from his gunshot wounds.
Locals in the Basistha Chariali area of Guwahati had accused Kumar of armed robbery on Tuesday.
When he attempted to steal T N Hira of Rs 3 lakhs, the locals caught him in the act. He was beaten before being given to the police.
When the police apprehended him, they questioned him to learn that he had assistance from another individual during the robbery incident.
Police took Kumar with them as they began a quest for the second suspect. He reportedly attempted to escape from detention at the time, though.
Police officers had no choice but to open fire on him as a result. According to officials, Kumar was struck by two bullets during the exchange.
Following the incident, the police quickly transported him to GMCH, where he was treated for a while until eventually passing away from his injuries.
