Assam: 41 Rare Wild Animals Rescued in Rangia, 2 Arrested

Guwahati: As many as 41 rare wild animals were rescued from a Fortuner car in Kamrup district of Assam on Thursday.

The wild animals were rescued by Assam Police in Rangia’s Society Chowk area.

According to reports, 19 wild and two rare types of monkeys, 18 turtles, and two parrots were among the animals that were rescued. However, two of the turtles passed away shortly after being saved.

The six different species of monkeys that were saved are thought to have been brought from Thailand or Myanmar. One can see these monkeys in India.

Two people identified as Raghu Singh and Karthik, both from Tamil Nadu have been detained in this regard.

The accused entered Assam through Thailand and Myanmar, and they set up the shipment of these animals to various states and nations.

According to officials, Raghu and Karthik are part of an international wildlife trafficking organisation.

Although these animals were fed, it is advised to send them to the state zoo before any other animals are in danger after a medical checkup by a local veterinarian.

The Assam Forest Department is en route to the state zoo to transport these wild animals as soon as feasible.

The authorities also suspect Assamese people of being involved in this trafficking along with these outsiders.

An investigation into the situation has been launched by the police and forest department.
