AAEA Presses for Vehicle Speed Data Recorders
Guwahati: The All Assam Engineer’s Association (AAEA) has called for more cutting-edge safety features in the vehicles, especially those that run with an 80 kilometre per hour speed, in recognition of the concern of millions of automobile users in India following the death of a prominent entrepreneur in a recent road accident.
Although the installation of seatbelts in the backseat of vehicles has been vigorously debated, the forum of graduate engineers places more attention on the installation of speed data recorders in the vehicles made to travel at a quicker rate on highways.
The engineer’s forum also requests Mercedes Benz, the manufacturer of the vehicle that was tragically involved in the accident after midnight, to confirm whether the vehicle was equipped with any of the following built-in safety features: crash sensors, frontal and side airbags, side-curtain bags, anti-lock brakes, traction control, electronic stability control, lane-keeping assistance, forward-collision warning, brake assist, automatic emergency braking, tire-pressure monitor, etc.
The forum is of the opinion that the accident reconstruction specialists will be able to determine the exact speed of the car shortly prior to the collision. The impacted vehicle was apparently travelling at about 140 kmph (which is still beyond the legal limit).
AAEA president Er Kailash Sarma, working president Er Nava J Thakuria, and secretary Er Inamul Hye stated in a statement that , contemporary automakers ought to consider including speed data recorders in speedy vehicles.
