Assam CM: Govt Soon To Bring Law for Domestic Helpers

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the ongoing Assam Assembly on Monday announced that the government would soon introduce a law for domestic assistants hired to perform home duties.

“The administration would shortly establish a new law regarding domestic servants,” he declared.

“Many native kids are employed to perform household duties. The government has taken notice of this, he added.

Employers must inform the police if they bring children in to work as domestic workers.

Even if their parents permit them to work, the employers will be required by law to pay for their education, he said.

The Assam Assembly’s fall session began today and will last through September 19.
