Guwahati: Former chief minister of Tripura Biplab Deb has submitted his nomination as a BJP candidate for the state’s lone open Rajya Sabha seat.
Biplab Deb presented his nomination paperwork to the returning officer on Monday morning in Agartala.
During the nomination process, Biplab Deb was supported by prominent BJP leaders such as Tripura chief minister Dr. Manik Saha, Deputy chief minister Jishnu Dev Varma, Union minister Pratima Bhoumik, state cabinet ministers, MLAs, and other party members.
Deb will compete against Bhanu Lal Saha, a candidate for the CPI-M.
After chief minister Dr. Manik Saha relinquished the seat earlier this year, election to the Rajya Sabha from Tripura was required.
By-elections will be conducted for Tripura’s lone Rajya Sabha seat on September 22.
