Guwahati: An eviction drive was carried out by the Railway Department at Kokrajhar district of Assam on Monday.
The administration has launched a campaign against clubs, stores, and other business facilities in the Shantinagar area for illegitimately encroaching into railway territory.
It should be mentioned that three months ago, the railways served an eviction notice on illegal encroachers, and that the campaign to remove them was carried out under heavy security as a result of the squatters’ disregard for the notification.
According to reports, as many as 75 shops will be removed since the occupiers encroached from Shantinagar to Tengapara in Kokrajhar.
Government Railway Police, Assam Police and Central Reserve Police Force were deployed in the area.
