5 Manipur Officials Arrested for Tempering Land Records

Guwahati: Five government officials has been arrested Manipur Police for allegedly manipulating land records and issuing forged documents, a senior officer said.

Additional DGP (law and order) Clay Khongsai said that the five officials, including a sub-deputy collector (SDC), were arrested for issuing bogus pattas.

The officer claimed on Sunday that “the accused suspects had issued 35 bogus pattas to individuals, resulting in a loss of approximately 19 acres of forest land in Thoubal district.”

He said that sheet number IV of the 17-Chaobok land documents had been found to be tempered.

“The sub-deputy collector of Chandel district, the prime accused in this fraudulent activity, had served as the circle mandal in charge of Supervisor Kanungo of Irong Chesaba when the pattas were issued and the village map was manipulated”, the police officer said.
