BJP To Start ‘Jail Bharo Andolan’ After Durga Puja In West Bengal

Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) West Bengal chief Sukanta Majumdar declared on Wednesday that the party will launch a “Jail Bharo Andolan” against the state administration following Durga Puja.

Majumdar refuted Mamata Banerjee’s assertions and blamed the violence that took place in Kolkata on Tuesday on Trinamool Congress (TMC) members.

He said, “TMC made people infiltrate our campaign and incite violence. Police also contributed to the incident by stopping passengers at train stops. After Durga Puja, the “jail bharo andolan” will begin.”

Mamata Banerjee has charged that BJP members in the state engaged in violence during anti-government demonstrations and threatened to take legal action against anyone causing trouble.

She said, “People were harassed, and public properties were damaged. Goons and bombs cannot be smuggled in under the guise of protests. Keep in mind that the police and illegal groups cannot coexist. No anti-social behaviour will be allowed to hide behind the mask of politics; the police will intervene if that occurs.”

Additionally, Banerjee asserted that the BJP had sent protestors from neighbouring states. She also defended the police’s actions against the demonstrators.

“The police officers could have opened fire in the air, but they reacted extremely calmly. You cannot schedule trains and invite people from other states to Bengal to cause trouble, the CM added.

This comes after skirmishes broke out as employees departed West Bengal on Tuesday to take part in the Nabanna Abhiyan in Kolkata.

Prior to the BJP’s protest march to the state secretariat “Nabanna,” Kolkata Police had detained MP Locket Chatterjee and Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in the West Bengal assembly.

The BJP leaders had been detained from Hastings in Kolkata as they were participating in the Nabanna Chalo Abhiyan. Adhikari, Chatterjee, Sukanta Majumdar and Rahul Sinha were taken to Kolkata Police headquarters in Lalbazar.

Before being detained, Aadhikari claimed that West Bengal had become North Korea and that CM Banerjee had lost the support of the populace.

He said, “Chief Minister Mamata is imposing a dictatorship comparable to North Korea in Bengal because she lacks the backing of her people. Police will be held accountable for their actions since Monday. BJP is on its way.

The West Bengal Home Secretary has been asked to submit a report regarding the BJP’s “Nabanna Abhiyan” by September 19 by the Calcutta High Court.
