Guwahati: Guwahati Police apprehended a family’s personal driver after he kidnapped a 10-year-old boy and demanded ransom, officials said on Friday.
In response to an increase in kidnapping incidents, the family’s driver absconded with the little girl while driving her to her tuition classes.
The accused has been identified as Nara Hari Barman who is a resident of Barpeta in Assam. He worked for the Dr. Buddhaditya Bhattacharya family in Guwahati as a driver.
Reportedly, the driver allegedly kidnapped her and fled with her while taking the girl to her classes. Later, he contacted to demand payment in exchange for her safe release.
According to the officials informed that the driver sought payment of Rs 7 lakhs in exchange for her release.
Police from Dispur, Bhangagarh and Basistha intervened just in time to save the young girl and catch the offender.
They were found by police at Jorabat near the Ganesh Mandir and the girl child was safely returned.
