Shiv Sena Leader Sanjay Raut’s Judicial Custody Extended By Another 14 Days
Guwahati: Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut has had his judicial custody extended by a special court in Mumbai for a further 14 days as it also takes cognizance of a supplementary charge sheet that names him as a defendant in a money laundering case.
Rajya Sabha member and Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on August 1 in connection with alleged financial irregularities in the reconstruction of the Patra Chawl in Mumbai’s Goregaon.
The agency had submitted an additional charge sheet last week that listed Raut as a defendant in the case.
Meantime, Raut has applied for bail in matters under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Sanjay Raut’s judicial custody was extended by another 14 days by special judge M G Deshpande after he took cognizance of the prosecution’s allegation and issued summonses to all of the defendants in the case, including Pravin Raut, a Sena MP’s aide.
Additionally, his bail hearing has been postponed until September 21 after his attorney stated that they needed to review the charge sheet and determine whether to include any additional justifications in his plea.
The ED is looking into potential financial irregularities in Patra Chawl’s redevelopment and related financial property transactions involving his wife and other partners.
ED testified last week that he was heavily involved in the Patra Chawl money laundering case and operated “behind the scenes” in order to defeat Raut’s bail request.
The investigating organisation also refuted Raut’s claim that the conduct taken against him was motivated by political animosity or malice.
