Punjab-Ex CM Capt Amarinder Singh Officially Joins BJP

Guwahati: Former Chief Minister of Punjab Capt Amarinder Singh officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday at the party headquarters in Delhi in the presence of Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Kiren Rijiju.

During the event, Singh also merged his party, the Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) with the BJP. He had earlier in the day met in Delhi with party national president J P Nadda.

Speaking to reporters at the BJP headquarters, Singh expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Nadda.

Union minister for law and justice, Rijiju praised him for joining the BJP and urged all right-thinking citizens to band together.

A delicate state like Punjab should be treated with caution, he said. He never put politics before national security while serving as CM.

It should be mentioned that after meeting Amit Shah on September 12 in Delhi, Singh declared he would be joining the BJP.

He had served Congress for a long time, but resigned as the Punjab CM in September last year ahead of the state assembly polls.

Later, Singh also left the Congress to found Punjab Lok Congress, a party that cooperated with the BJP and SAD (Sanyukt) to compete in the assembly elections.

As a result, the BJP will now have a respectable Sikh representative in Punjab who has been involved in the state’s politics for many years.
