State Funeral Of Queen Elizabeth II Ends In London
Guwahati: World leaders in attendance including Indian Prime Minister Droupadi Murmu, French President Emmanuel Macron, and American President Joe Biden, joined the general public in observing a two-minute silence in her honour following the conclusion of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral services in London on Monday.
The national anthem, “God Save the King,” was sung to close the services. The Queen’s casket was carried today at Westminster Abbey in London in the presence of prominent world leaders and members of the Royal family.
On September 8 at Scotland’s Balmoral Castle, Queen Elizabeth II, the British monarch with the longest reign, passed away. This is the first state funeral in the UK since Winston Churchill since 1965.
The flowers for the Queen’s wreath were picked from the grounds of the Royal residences and included rosemary, English oak, myrtle, and flowers in colours of deep burgundy, deep pink, and white.
Taking to twitter, the Royal Family wrote, “At The King’s request, the wreath contains foliage of Rosemary, English Oak and Myrtle (cut from a plant grown from Myrtle in The Queen’s wedding bouquet) and flowers, in shades of gold, pink and deep burgundy, with touches of white, cut from the gardens of Royal Residences.”
Her Majesty the Queen’s coffin was borne in a procession to Westminster Abbey on the State Gun Carriage.
“As for her father King George VI, grandfather King George V, great-grandfather King Edward VII and great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria, Her Majesty The Queen’s coffin was borne in a Procession to Westminster Abbey on the State Gun Carriage,” tweeted the Royal Family.
Several visitors, including foreign leaders and members of the royal family, as well as dignitaries from all over the world, had flown into the UK for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
It should be noted that when there is a state funeral, the UK government formally declares the day a bank holiday.
Droupadi Murmu, the president of India, came in London on Friday in order to attend the Queen’s burial on Saturday. The Indian government’s sympathies were extended by her.
The president of the United States of America (USA) Joe Biden on Sunday, expressed his sympathies to the royal family.
He remembered the Queen’s warm candour while mourning and said, “The way she touched when she leaned over. The way — she had that look like, “Are you okay? Anything I can do for you? What do you need?” And then also, “Make sure you do what you’re supposed to do,” Biden said adding that she reminded him of his mother.
Children and senior adults camped out along the funeral route for more than 48 hours in order to say their final goodbyes to the Queen today.
The readings were delivered by Prime Minister Liz Truss and Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland during the funeral service, which was presided over by the Dean of Westminster.
The Most Reverend Justin Welby, the archbishop of Canterbury, preached the sermon. Rarely has such a promise been kept so perfectly, he remarked.
The Duke and Duchess of York, who would later become King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, welcomed the Queen on April 21, 1926 at 17 Bruton Street in London’s Mayfair.
