Assam CM Sarma Asks People To Submit Power Bill Grievances To APDCL
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said that households with complaints about their monthly electricity bills must submit a written application outlining their problems.
The CM expressed his concerns over the irregularities in Assamese energy bills and stated that Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) would run advertising in this respect.
People who have problems paying their monthly electricity bills must file legal complaints, he said.
CM Sarma stated that the regional APDCL offices must be contacted regarding the complaints.
The CM continued by saying that after a request is made, representatives from the electricity department will go to their residences and check their metre boxes.
He added that monthly payments would be adjusted with the bill for the next month if any problems were discovered with their particular metre boxes.
It should be noted that this year saw profits for the power department after years of losses, according to remarks made last week by Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) before the Assam Assembly’s autumn session. During the session, the power department also disclosed a number of information.
They claimed that Assam consumes almost 2,400 megawatts of electricity each day.
APDCL stated that Assam produces only about 350 megawatts of the nation’s total energy needs, with the remaining 2,000 megawatts coming from other states.
They added that from 2016 to 2019, the state used to purchase power at a cost of Rs 4.05 per unit. The cost per unit has since increased to Rs 5.13.
