PFI Regional Secy Aminul Haque Among Those Held By NIA From Assam
Guwahati: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out searches in the Hatigaon area of Guwahati on Thursday amid widespread raids on the Popular Front of India (PFI).
Raids reportedly took place at House No. 26 on Friends Path in the Hatigaon area at the home of PFI leader and North East Regional Secretary Aminul Haque at around 3 am past midnight.
The PFI chief has been detained by the NIA in relation to funding for terrorism, setting up training grounds, and recruiting radicalised individuals into organisations that are outlawed.
Haque had apparently been held for questioning multiple times in the past. He had been leaving as a tenant here for the previous five years with his wife and two kids.
The landlord of the house has been identified as Mahrum Ali.
Moreover, another PFI leader identified as Farhad Ali Ahmed was arrested from Dispur.
Those detained during the major raids were Nazrul Islam Bhuyan, Hafiz Rafiqul Islam, and Rabiul Hussain from Boko’s Nagarbera, as well as Bashir Ahmed and Hafiz Rafiqul Islam from Padumpara.
All Assamese people detained by the central investigating agency who had ties to PFI have since been sent to the Special Branch of the Assam Police, where they are currently being questioned.
They are reportedly being interrogated there separately by the NIA and Assam Police.
They have been accused of coordinating the flow of money from outside India to fund terrorist activities there.
Officials will also investigate any connections to organisations that are prohibited including Jihadi groups. Senior officers from numerous state districts are currently questioning those held at the SB headquarters.
