Assam: Nagaon PFI President Arrested Amid Nationwide Raids

Guwahati: Another member of Popular Front of India (PFI) has been arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from Nagaon district of Assam on Thursday.

The accused member has been identified as Maulana Rahmat Ullah Qasmi.

According to reports, Maulana was arrested from Rupohihat.

Qasmi served as the PFI district president for Nagaon.

He was taken into custody from his residence in the Kawaimari area early in the morning.

Early this morning, raids were conducted at House No. 26 on Friends Path in the Hatigaon area, the home of PFI leader and North East Regional Secretary Aminul Haque.

The PFI chief has been detained by the NIA in relation to funding for terrorism, setting up training grounds, and recruiting radicalised individuals into organisations that are outlawed.

Moreover, another PFI leader identified as Farhad Ali Ahmed was arrested from Dispur.

Notably, a coordinated operation by the National Investigation Agency, Enforcement Directorate, and state police forces across 11 states in various parts of the nation led to the arrest of over 100 PFI cadres on Thursday.

Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh were among the states where the raids were carried out.
