Dr M Srinivas Appointed New Director of AIIMS in Delhi
Guwahati: Dr. M. Srinivas was appointed as the next director of the prestigious All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Friday by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet which is led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Srinivas has been appointed for a period of five years, or until he becomes 65, in accordance with a formal order dated September 23. Srinivas was the dean of the Employees State Insurance Company (ESIC) Hospital and Medical College in Sanathnagar, Hyderabad, at the time of his appointment.
Dr. Randeep Guleria’s term as director of the AIIMS came to an end. Dr. Guleria started on March 28th, 2017 as the Director on Friday.
Reports state that in addition to Srinivas, the names of numerous other medical specialists were taken into consideration.
Dr. Sanjay Behari, the director of the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology in Trivandrum, was another name that was being considered. His name had been submitted for approval to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
Dr. Pramod Garg, a professor in the department of gastroenterology, Dr. Nikhil Tandon, the head of the endocrinology department, and Dr. Rajesh Malhotra, the director of the AIIMS Trauma Center, were mentioned earlier in March.
The head of the orthopaedics department that was chosen by AIIMS’ search and selection process is Dr. Rajesh Malhotra. His name was forwarded to the ACC, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in charge of. Later on, though, ACC looked for a few other candidates for the position.
