Roger Federer Bids Adieu To Tennis With Laver Cup Defeat

Guwahati: Roger Federer’s amazing tennis career came to an end in the early hours of Saturday when he and longtime rival Rafael Nadal lost a heartbreaking doubles match at the Laver Cup.

Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock of Team World upset Federer and Rafael Nadal in the O2 arena with scores of 4-6, 7-6 (7/2), and 11-9, defying the expectations of tennis fans everywhere.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion, who had been sidelined since the Wimbledon semifinals of 2021 due to a knee injury, announced his retirement this week. He was 41 years old.

To the delight of a fervent devoted crowd he reversed the years in London, the site of many of his most celebrated triumphs at Wimbledon.

“Of all the gifts that tennis has given me over the years, the greatest, without a doubt, has been the people I’ve met along the way: my friends, my competitors, and most of all the fans who give the sport its life. Today, I want to share some news with all of you,” Roger said in a video message.
