Guwahati: A three-day celebration of Bangladesh’s golden jubilee of independence and India’s Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav will take place in Silchar of Assam from October 29 to October 31.
The three-day event is jointly organised by India Foundation and “Friends of Bangladesh,” a group that works to improve relations between Bangladesh and its neighbours.
The event is anticipated to draw delegates from abroad as well as the chief ministers of the Northeastern states and a number of Union ministers.
This will be the first significant international event staged in Assam to commemorate the nation’s 75 years of independence, according to BJP MP Rajdeep Roy of Silchar.
On addition to blending art, culture, and food, he continued, “in the sidelines of the event, we will discuss the issues related to both countries, including trade and commerce, river sharing, apart from those.
The event, according to the organisers, would help close the gap between India and Sylhet, which were divided in 1947.
The three-day event is anticipated to draw close to ten Bangladeshi MPs and a few Ministers, according to Roy.
Samsul Arfin, a retired major general from Bangladesh, has travelled to India to handle everything pertaining to the planning of this significant event. He claims that the festival would further solidify relations between India and Bangladesh.
He said, “Sylhet was once a part of Assam and we are hoping to witness the old connection between the two places once again during the festival.
