Gauhati High Court Upholds Ranjan Daimary’s Life Sentence In 2008 Serial Blasts Case

Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court affirmed Ranjan Daimary’s life sentence in the Guwahati serial blast case from October 2008 in a significant ruling on Tuesday.

The founder of the now-defunct National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), Daimary, has been imprisoned since 2019 after being found guilty in the 2008 Assamese serial explosions case by a special court.

Daimary was the main suspect in the case of the serial bombings. His life sentence was upheld by the high court today.

The court also upheld the earlier decisions for the nine more defendants in the case. It cleared four other people who had been suspected of wrongdoing, nevertheless.

The high court today maintained the prior judgments that had been handed down by a lower court.

Earlier this year, the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) had demanded the early release of former NDFB chairman Ranjan Daimary.
