Over 100 Tomato Flu Cases Detected in Last 1 Month in Assam

Guwahati: The health department is concerned after more than 100 cases of “tomato flu” were found in Assam over the course of the previous month.

A novel type of hand, foot, and mouth disease is the “tomato flu.”

The Assamese Dibrugarh district has reported the highest number of cases.

The districts have been advised by the health authorities to isolate the sick children for seven days. Also requested to check for early case identification are the paediatric outpatient clinics in the district hospitals by the district health officials.

The number of confirmed cases in the state has not yet been formally compiled by the health department.

According to an earlier warning from the health officials, only Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, and Odisha had recorded cases of tomato flu before August 23.

Despite the fact that a number of viruses can cause the illness, the health department’s sources said that “Coxsackie” was to blame for its development in regions like Assam. Unwashed hands, contaminated surfaces, and even the air can spread coxsackie from one person to another.

Health professionals have stated that there are now no specific medications available to treat the condition and that it is “extremely contagious.”
