GMC Seals Guwahati’s Hotel for Running Illegally

Guwahati: The Hotel Ganga Niwas has been sealed by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation on Thursday.

Reports claim that the hotel was operating unlawfully in residential house No. 1 in the Seuz Path of Hatigaon area.

The owner of the lodge was Bhaskar Das submitted an online application for a trading licence.

The GMC said, “Although he applied for a trade license online, there are few rules such as one cannot run a hotel in a residential area. We issued notice to shut down the place months ago and they agreed. They even vacated the place however, they failed to provide us written letter that they will not operate at this place again. As there were lots of complaints from the locals so as per rules we had to seal the place because we were not provided any written letter.”

“In May, we received a complaint about this motel. When we looked into the situation, we discovered that they had not obtained the neighbours’ consent before opening for business. When we came back after a week and issued another warning, we discovered that they were still operating the company. We gave them notice, and they admitted at the hearing that the neighbours had not given them permission to operate,” he added.

Meanwhile, the residents claimed that immoral acts occurred at the motel.
