Afghanistan: Blast in Education Centre Kills 19, Several Injured in Kabul
Guwahati: In a tragic incident, as many as 19 people have been killed and dozens of others injured in Kabul of Afghanistan after an explosion that took place at an education centre on Friday morning.
As per national media reports, Kabul Police spokesperson Khalid Zadran said the explosion at the Kaaj education centre took place at 7:30 am local time.
“Unfortunately, there have been fatalities as a result of the explosion. Security forces have arrived in the region, and we will later reveal the explosion’s type and the number of casualties “Zadran stated.
In a Twitter post, NGO Afghan Peace Watch said a suicide bomber detonated him among students, targeting Kaj educational centre in a Hazara neighbourhood.
This explosion occurs a short time after a bombing that was reported close to Kabul’s Wazir Akbar Khan neighborhood and caused widespread outrage. Strong condemnation was also expressed for the recent explosion that occurred outside the Russian Embassy in Kabul.
These explosions occur as the Taliban, who overthrew the US-backed civilian government in Afghanistan last year, have been in power for a whole year. Rights organisations claimed that the Taliban had repeatedly breached their promises to uphold women’s and human rights.
The Islamic authorities severely restricted the rights of women and girls after seizing Kabul in August of last year. They also repressed the media, arbitrarily imprisoned, tortured, and summarily murdered critics and perceived enemies.
Rights groups say that the Taliban’s human rights abuses have brought widespread condemnation and imperilled international efforts to address the country’s dire humanitarian situation.
