Assam-Arunachal Border Row: 2nd Crucial Regional Committees Meet Held in Dibrugarh

Guwahati: The Regional Committees of the Namsai, Lohit and Lower Dibang Valley Districts of Arunachal Pradesh and Tinsukia District of Assam met jointly for the second time to discuss resolving the border issue between the two states on Thursday.

The discussion covered the Regional Committees’ final report which will be delivered to the chief ministers of both states.

Cabinet member of Assam Atul Bora stated that most border disputes involving the districts have been resolved and that a joint report will be submitted to the chief ministers of both states by October 15.

Arunachal’s Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein stated that both governments were dedicated to resolving the seven decades-old boundary issues after the BJP government took office.

The district administrations of both sides have recommended a “as in and where is foundation,” according to Chowna Mein, who went on to say that any minor disagreements will be amicably settled by the two MPs from each side after consulting with the relevant parties.

The first joint meeting of the Inter-State Regional Committees was conducted on August 22 at Namsai after a field examination of the inter-State border areas.

The chief minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier ordered officials to erect temporary checkpoints along the border between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh to prevent the illicit entry of alcohol produced in the neighbouring state.
