Rahul Dravid: Jasprit Bumrah Not Yet Officially Ruled Out of T20 World Cup
Guwahati: Indian head coach Rahul Dravid isn’t ready to give up hope that injured star pacer Jasprit Bumrah will show up in Australia to compete in the forthcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, similar to BCCI President Sourav Ganguly.
Bumrah was being watched by their medical staff at the NCA after “suspending” a back injury. “I haven’t read any of the medical studies in-depth. I rely on professionals to identify it for me. He has been disqualified for this season and is currently being evaluated. What occurs in the future will be known in due time. We will undoubtedly remain hopeful until he is absolutely declared out or until I receive formal word that he is ruled out.Rahul Dravid stated during the pre-match news conference prior to the second T20I match against South Africa, “We shall always hope for the best.
The bowler was forced to miss the current three-match T20I series against South Africa on Wednesday and was flown from Thiruvananthapuram to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to get scans on his back.
“As of now, he has been officially ruled out of this T20 series of South Africa for these two games. He has gone to the NCA and we are waiting for the official confirmation on next steps. So, as of now officially he is only ruled out of this series but we will see what happens in next few days and once we get some official confirmation and we will be able to share that with you,” added Rahul Dravid.
Bumrah, who is injured, will be replaced by Mohammed Siraj for the remaining T20I series against South Africa. The National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru is treating Hooda and Jasprit Bumrah for back issues. India is currently awaiting an update on their condition. Hooda was disqualified from the South Africa series, but Bumrah was only pulled on Wednesday, the day before the first T20I, after he cited a back ailment.
India has worked very hard to prepare for the T20 World Cup. Over the previous three months, in addition to the home series against Australia and South Africa, they have played T20Is in Ireland, England, the Caribbean, and the United Arab Emirates.
India is in Group 2 at the ICC competition alongside Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Africa, and two qualifiers. They will play on October 27, against a qualifier in Sydney, on October 30, against South Africa in Perth, on November 2, against Bangladesh in Adelaide, and on November 6, after their match on October 23 against Pakistan at the MCG (vs qualifier in Melbourne).
