Meghalaya BJP Vice Prez Bernard Marak Granted Bail

Guwahati: BJP vice president Bernard N Marak was granted conditional bail by the Meghalaya High Court on Saturday. Marak was charged with operating a sex business out of his farmhouse in the West Garo Hills district.

The decision was made by a single bench of the court presided over by Justice Wanlura Diengdoh after hearing the Friday bail application submitted by LK Gracy, Bernard’s wife.

Marak was given bail with the requirements that he helps with the inquiry and not flee, tamper with the evidence, or leave the country.

He was also required to provide a personal bond in that amount along with two solvable sureties in the amount of Rs. 50,000.

The high court accepted Marak’s ownership of the property, but it questioned whether there was sufficient proof that it had been a brothel.

Days after police allegedly smashed a sex ring at his private farmhouse, “Rimpu Bagan,” Marak, a former militant leader, was taken into custody in the Uttar Pradesh region of Hapur.

Additionally, according to the police, 73 persons were detained at the farmhouse, and six minors, including four boys and two girls, were rescued.

A case was registered against the BJP Leader under various sections of the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act, 1956 at the Tura women’s police station.
