Kerala PFI Leader is given five days of NIA custody by a special NIA court

Guwahati: Abdul Sathar, a leader of the Popular Front of India (PFI), was ordered by a special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Kerala to five days custody in NIA prison for questioning.

NIA requested seven days of custody, but the court only granted five. The NIA notified the Court that it was necessary to look into PFI’s foreign funding.

The NIA requested his detention on Friday, and the Court granted it today. Earlier, the Court had ordered him to be held in judicial custody till October 20.

The third defendant in the UAPA case that the NIA has opened following the ban is Sathar, the State General Secretary prior to the PFI’s dissolution. He was taken into custody by the NIA last week in the Kollam district’s Karunagappalli.

The Court sentenced 11 further PFI leaders to 21 days of judicial detention until October 20 last week.
The PFI employees, who were detained for seven days on September 30 after being booked under the UAPA and taken into custody by the NIA last month from various locations in Kerala, were brought in court by the NIA.

Ansari P, MM Mujeeb, Najumudeen, Sainudeen TS (PFI Kottayam District Secretary), PK Usman, Yahiya Koya (PFI State Executive Member), K Muhammedali (National in-charge, Expansion wing of PFI), and CT Sulaiman are among the accused who have been placed in judicial custody. Karamana Ashraf Moulavi, the national in-charge (District President of Kasargod).
