Nepal: 16 Killed In Bus Accident In Bara

Guwahati: At least 16 people dead and 24 others sustained injuries in a bus accident that occurred in Bara District of Southern Nepal along the East-West highway on Thursday.

According to local police officials, the tragedy occurred early in the morning while the bus was travelling from Narayangadh in Chitwan to Pathlaiya of Bara. The bus collided near Tin number pul along the East-West Highway, hurting around twenty-dozen persons.

“Twelve patients died as a result of their injuries while receiving care at the Hetauda Hospital in the Makwanpur District, two at Chure Hill Hospital, and one each at Makwanpur Hospital and Chitwan. There have been an additional 24 injuries, and they are being treated “Inspector Balaram Shrestha of the Makawanpur District Police Office told ANI over the phone.

People were being ferried by bus as they returned from the Dashain festival.

According to the local officials, the bus was overloaded when it was boarding passengers and eventually slid off the bridge into the river.

There are often traffic accidents in Nepal when people migrate in huge numbers for holidays like Dashain.

The Himalayan region has seen an increase in fatalities as a result of bad road conditions, heavy vehicles, and driver mistake.
