Over 1,800 Bru voter names removed from the Mizoram electoral roll

Guwahati: The voting rolls of Mizoram have had the names of nearly 1,800 Bru voters removed.

This action coincides with the relocation of displaced Bru people taking place in Tripura.

According to David Liansanglura Pachuau, joint chief election officer of Mizoram, a total of 1,829 Bru voter names have been removed from the state’s voter list as a result of their enrollment in the Tripura electoral roll.

He said that 93 voters’ names had been removed based on scanned ballots, while 1,736 voters’ names had been removed based on the corresponding deletion requests received from Tripura.

Nine assembly constituencies in Mamit district, Kolasib district, and Lunglei district were where the Brus originally came from.

A total of 1,614 of the 1,829 Bru voters were from the Mamit district, 187 were from Kolasib, and 28 were from Lunglei.

11,759 Bru voters, including 5,751 female voters, who have been permitted to re-settle in Tripura, were registered to vote in Mizoram, according to the Mizoram election administration.
