BJP to Contest from All 40 Assembly Seats in 2023 Elections in Mizoram
Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will contest from all 40 of Mizoram’s assembly seats would be up for election in the upcoming general election, its state unit chief Vanlalhmuaka said on Sunday.
Vanlalhmuaka stated that “BJP will contest from all 40 assembly seats in the 2023 elections.”
40 assembly constituencies total, spread across 11 districts in the landlocked nation of Mizoram in the North-East, with 39 designated for scheduled tribes and one for the general category.
The North-East Regional Political Front, which backs the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), includes the current government’s Mizo National Front (MNF).
However, the BJP recently received a jolt when at least 16 MNF leaders joined it.
In 1986 and 1998, the MNF previously established the Mizorami government. But it only managed to obtain three seats in the 2008 elections, which it lost.
MNF won 26 of the state’s assembly seats in the 2018 assembly election, compared to Congress’s five victories. In Mizoram, the BJP had never previously won an assembly seat.
