Arunachal: Trader shot dead by suspected NSCN-K(YA) militants in Longding
Guwahati: In a shocking incident, a trader was allegedly shot dead by suspected NSCN-K-YA militants Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The incident took place at around 6 this evening.
The victim has been identified as 70 year old Atar Singh.
According to reports, Singh was shot twice at his grocery shop by a group of 4 militants.
Reportedly, Singh was at the shop along with his wife and son at the time of the incident.
Singh suffered a serious injury when a bullet struck him in the chest.
Following the incident, Singh was immediately rushed to the nearby Longding community health centre, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Reports further stated that 2 empty cartridges were also recovered from the site of the incident.
Originally from Haryana, Singh’s family moved to Longding around 40 years ago.
The incident has brought about a terror psychosis throughout the area.
It should be noted that the Tirap, Changland and Longding districts of Arunachal have seen widespread extortion activities by the NSCN-K-YA and other factions.
It needs to be mentioned that locals have protested often, calling for an end to extortion and violence in the area in recent months.
