Assam: Suspected drug dealer Killed during police firing in Tinsukia

Guwahati: As the drive against contrabands and illegal drug trade continues in Assam, another person was killed in police firing in Tinsukia districrt of Assam on Sunday.

The incident occurred at Tongona Sengapathar area of the district.

Police officers opened fire after allegedly receiving stone-pelting from a group.

Police said that stones were pelted at them after which they fired in retaliation during which one of the gang members was shot, who later died.

An official said, “A police squad raided a residence in Tongona hamlet where four suspected drug dealers were gathering as a result of a tip-off. When they noticed the police party, they began throwing stones.”

He claimed that the person who the police believed to be involved in drug distribution was shot in the legs.

“They brought him to the hospital. He passed away from his injuries while being taken to the hospital because of significant blood loss,” he added.

Meanwhile, the person who sustained bullet injuries, succumbed, while three other people in the alleged gang, were taken into custody by the police.
