President Draupadi Murmu to Visit Tripura on Oct 12 on a 2-day Tour

Guwahati: President Draupadi Murmu is scheduled to land at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Tripura on Wednesday at 11.15 a.m. Murmu will be making her first trip to the state after being elected as president.

During her two-day visit to the state, the President will dedicate a number of development projects in Tripura, according to officials.

As part of the tour Murmu will flag off the Guwahati to Kolkata express as far as Agartala and the extension of the Agartala-Jiribam-Agartala Jan Satabdi express as far as Khongsang (Manipur), they added.

She will also make a video connection dedication to the nation of the trans-shiftment yard created at Nischintapur, the crossing location of the Indo-Bangla railway project, six kilometres from the state capital.

At Narsinghgarh in the West Tripura district, the President is set to lay the cornerstone for the Pushbanta Palace Museum and National Law University.

Pushbanta Palace, constructed in 1917 by Maharaja Birendra Kishore Mankya Bahadur is slated to be transformed into a digital museum by the state government. When visiting Tripura, Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore stayed at the palace. Up until April 2018, the Governor’s formal residence was the Pushbanta Palace.

The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) will host a civic welcome for Murmu at Town Hall with Chief Minister Manik Saha, Mayor Dipak Majumder, and cabinet officials in attendance. The President is anticipated to meet with dignitaries, popular figures, and political leaders.

On October 13, the president is planned to travel to Udaipur to pray at the Tripureswari temple before departing the city for Guwahati at 1:10.

In preparation for the President’s visit to the state, security has been stepped up in Agartala and the surrounding area.

“A high level security team from Delhi has already arrived here to oversee the security arrangement for the President’s visit. They visited the programme venues to review the security measures taken by the state police. They are in touch with senior police officers for better coordination”, said a senior police officer.
